Chemical Removal Project

On March 4-14 2014, The American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency (AS-EPA) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) Region 9 conducted a removal action.

The following is a list of the aforementioned department and chemical laboratories that were included:

1. Tafuna High School (Tafuna Village)

2. Samoana High School (Utulei Village)

3. Leone High School

4. Fagaitua High School

5. American Samoa Community College (Mapusaga Village)

6. L.B.J. Medical Center (Faga’alu Village)

7. American Samoa Department of Agriculture

8. American Samoa Shipyard Services Authority (Satala Village)

In March 2017, The American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency (AS-EPA) completed a hazardous waste removal action by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA) in American Samoa.

The Hazmat branch team organized the collection of hazardous waste from the Lyndon B. Johnson Tropical Medical Center, American Samoa Community College Land Grant, Department of Agriculture, Department of Commerce, and the AS-EPA Laboratory. The waste included mercury, pesticides, and other harmful products that require special disposal.

In May 2024, the American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency (AS-EPA) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) Region 9 completed a chemical removal action in American Samoa.

The various chemicals identified by AS-EPA are either unknown, expired, abandoned, or no longer suitable for their intended use. The following is a list of the aforementioned department and chemical laboratories that are included in this request:

9. American Samoa Department of Public Works (Tafuna Village)

10. American Samoa Department of Agriculture (Tafuna Village)

11. NOAA Matatula Laboratory (Tula Village)

12. National Park Service (Utulei Village)
